The Boundary Waters and Lake Superior are under threat from the proposed Twin Metals and PolyMet copper-sulfide mines. Call your elected officials today and tell them to protect Minnesota’s clean water. We won’t provide a script because the message is always better when it comes from the heart. Remember, elected officials work for you, you don’t need to be an expert to call and demand action. It is your responsibility to tell them what issues are important to you, it is their responsibility to figure out how to address the issues.
However, we have included specific asks you can make of your elected officials at all levels of government that will help protect the Boundary Waters from pollution. Calls from constituents matter a lot to elected officials so call now, call often, and recruit your friends to do the same. Your voice makes all the difference!
Minnesota Residents
It is critical that our elected officials hear from Minnesotans on these issues. Calls matter more than you think and it’s important to keep pressure on politicians who intend to let these polluting mines be built. It’s equally important to support our brave elected officials who stand up for the Boundary Waters and Lake Superior despite enormous pressure from mining-backed politicians.
Governor Tim Walz
Governor Walz has more power than any other single person to protect Minnesota’s clean water. He is not doing enough to protect Minnesota’s clean water and he needs to hear from Minnesotans like you.
Asks for Governor Walz:
Support a moratorium on all copper-sulfide mines, including Twin Metals and PolyMet, until it can be scientifically proven that these mines won’t pollute.
Oppose the proposed Twin Metals and PolyMet mines.
Refuse to begin the state-level environmental review of the Twin Metals mine plan until all lawsuits regarding the legality of Twin Metals’ mineral leases have been settled in court.
Demand a Legislative hearing into the numerous issues surrounding PolyMet.
Begin an independent investigation into how the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency was able to suppress documents that were by law, public data.
Demand Glencore be named on all PolyMet permits.
Call Governor Walz: 651-201-3400.
Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith
As the Senators from Minnesota, Amy and Tina’s voices carry a lot of weight on this issue, both federally and at the state level. So far, neither has come out against PolyMet or Twin Metals. Help us change that!
Asks for Senators Klobuchar and Smith:
Support a moratorium on all copper-sulfide mines, including Twin Metals and PolyMet, until it can be scientifically proven that these mines won’t pollute.
